Guitar Barre Chords

Barre or bar chords are played by fretting all or most of the strings with one finger, usually the first or index finger, and completing the rest chord with the other fingers. Barre chords are movable chords and can be played anywhere up and down the guitar neck.

The barre of the chord is shown in a guitar chord diagram with an arched line over the low notes of the chord. This shows all the notes on that fret used in the chord is fretted with one finger. These guitar chords are harder to learn for beginners because of the finger strength needed to play them. Practice on the higher areas of the guitar at first. The string tension in these areas take less strength to fret than the lower areas.
