Guitar Barre Chords

Barre, or bar chords are played by fretting all, or most, of the guitar strings with one finger - usually the first or index finger, and forming the rest of the chord with the other fingers.

Barre chords are movable guitar chord forms and can be played anywhere up and down the guitar neck at any fret.

The "barre" of the chord is shown in guitar chord diagrams with an arched line over the notes of the chord. This shows the part of the chord being fretted with one finger at the same time. These guitar chords can be harder to play for beginners because of the finger strength needed to play them. Practice on the higher areas of the guitar at first. The string tension in these areas take less strength to fret than the lower areas of the guitar neck.
